These are among the oldest lanterns made specifically for the garden. Named after the Momoyama Period warlord, Furuta Oribe, who is said to have created them. It is of the "planted" lantern type because they do not have a base and are set directly into the ground. It is distinguished by the circular shape at the top of the shaft, its thick roof, and its lotus bud shaped top.
